I need help on my poetry intro :( The one I have right now sucks ***:
If you’re a dreamer, come in. If you’re a wisher, a liar, a hope-er, a pray-er, or a magic bean buyer, come in...to the world where there’s talking fish, the sickest girl alive, and crocodiles that go to the dentist. And their journeys begin, “Where the Sidewalk Ends” by Shel Silverstein.
Bah, any suggestions on how to make a better one? The poems I'm using are: Smart, Sick, With his mouth full of food, sarah cynthia silvia stout would not take the garbage out, the silver fish, and the crocodile's toothache.

nope, definately not. if youre doing shel silverstein, thats a really great intro, i think. turning into a program of class and well written poetry rather than a stupid little kids book. but again, id really recommend not doing those poems. unless, you have a really creative way to make them different from anything else done before. good luck!

hey man.....i think ive heard that intro before...well, nto exactly, but i think its a cliche intro for shel silverstein. i must concur with the majority, however, shel silverstein is touchy. i cant really talk because i did taylor mali last year, but my advice is to find some original slam poems or something. still, do what feels best for you. thats the onyl way you can enjoy the activity

Wow, you're right it is! Um, iismepeter, I know that post was about two years old, but still, that definitely not allowed.
Speaking of which, I've noticed that it's actually a bit of a trend to do things like that. I've seen a whole bunch of pieces that use something from the actual book or script as their intro, there was a girl in Yale DI finals this year that did that. I consider it cheating and it is explicitly against the rules. Your intro is supposed to be original material, absolutely not published material from the same source as your piece!

Well, the Teaser is suppose to be from the book, I don't think you can make the teaser up, haha. But yeah, I get what you mean.

Muahaha I know these are old posts but what an uncomfortable thread. Once someone threw out the "hey, that's the actual intro from the book jacket!" bomb, I was just like ".....awkward."
