Hey texas people! I just wanted to promote the camp I went to last summer. WTAMU speech camp is amazing! if you are even the littlest bit interested then you should definately check it out. People that came out of there include Cody Kirkpatrick (1st HI tfa, 1st 4A PO UIL, National Qual), Justin Blacklock (3rd DI tfa, 4th 4A PO UIL, National Qual), Jack Hsiao (2nd FX tfa, 3rd 4A PX UIL, National Qual), Manny Vasquez (5th HI tfa), Cornelius Lee (6th OO tfa, 6th Duo @ Harvard, National Qual), Nathan Barrientes (1st POI tfa, 3rd-i think 3A PO UIL), and many other great competitors including 22 Semifinalists at TFA, 46 Quarterfinalists, and 132 total Qualifications. Also in the uil spectrum, 55 total qualifications for state. Last year we had National College Champions in Poetry, Robbie Sublett, Chris Collins, Jake Simmons, and even more counselors or "lab leaders"... The camp is amazing, and i strongly recommend going! If you need to find out how to get in touch with the right people, i think the website will tell you what you need to do. www.wtamu.edu/speechcamp its kid of a ghetto site... but its an awesome camp! check it out!

If you are debating between West Texas and UT, go to UT. WTAMU is a fun camp with a lot of activities, but you don't really focus on one event. They make the varsity campers do like 4 or 5 events; however, at UT you get to focus and be coached on one main event. I went to WTAMU last year and Joe andI are going to UT this year.

I'd say the opposite...go to WT....i went to wt for 2 years and it has improved me so much as a performer i still can't believe it.

I think its much better to focus on mulitiple events. The best interpers are ones that can do a bunch of performances really well...not just one. just like the best actors in the world are ones that can play multiple parts...and arent just "character actors" The thing is, at WT you get the choice. If you WANT to seriously focus on JUST one event...you can do that. wt just ensures that you find and cut all of your pieces. but if the only thing you want to be coached on is hi.....they wont force you to perform your di. and there are plenty of people there to coach you....

unforunately i havn't been to any other camps like jman so i guess i can't accurately compare them....but from what i've been told about what goes on at ut....i'd say wt is better

I'll be teaching at WT this summer, and if you're looking for reasonably priced camp with a fun atmosphere and a good learning experince then I think WT is a good choice. UT I'm sure is a good choice too. I think one of my future teammates is teaching there this summer (this years national HI champ Natalie Sintek). So I mean both camps are good camps. UT is more expensive and I think is better for interpers with a lot of experince. WT is a little cheaper than UT and I think the expectations of the campers talent isn't nearly as high.

Also, WT is a lot more of a camp atmosphere...You do fun activities (the nightly boys vs. girls) or the band coming or Big Papa E and especially the camp olympics (Interp took it home last year...Let's continue the tradition)

Yeah I went to WTAMU last year and I found it hard to juggle 4 pieces because I couldnt really focus, also they dont have a good coach to student ratio. It was hard to get coaching with so little staff. WTAMU was definitely a fun experience but I'm going to UT this year simply because I would rather focus on 2 pieces and perfect them and also recieve more coaching :)

P.S. UT is a heck of a lot more expensive! But they are both good camps!

the staff and the coaching is alot more experianced than at WT. I went to both camps and you get alot more help from plenty of national champs and very experianced coaches. there is a performance night every night at UT where you get to see at least 3 performances by people in the collage circuit and national champions. if you are looking for fun go to WT, but if you want to work your *** off...than the answer is clear...HOOK'EM!
