Ive heard that before....its a pretty popular duo in my area...they do it very well
veronica
02-07-2004, 03:52 PM
hhmm... i never thought it could be used as a duo... Thats cool...
"hair in my dirt" has been overdone. my coach won't even let any of us do it anymore.
veronica, did you happen to compete at the greenwood/graves tourney this year? i saw a girl do that piece in graves finals. don't suppose that was you?
keeping w/the subject of this forum, i'm doing "bartholomew and the oobleck" by dr. seuss. the man was a genius, i swear. in it, the king has decided he's tired of snow, rain, sleet, etc., and calls his royal magicians to make something new fall from the sky. bartholomew is his page boy who spends the piece trying to fix the king's mistake. i changed it a bit, though. the king is now a queen, to make it more feminine, and i had to cut out most of the characters, b/c it was so long. it's really fun. i even managed to pop a button off my suit in the middle of one of my regions rounds last saturday. that was amusing.

yeah.... i'm that girl u competed with at Greenwood/Graves finals. I remember your piece, i thought it was the bestone there. I really liked it alot. And it didn't rhyme like most dr. suess story's i've seen. I liked that part most of all.

haha! i did hair in my dirt for speech class last week... odly noone had ever heard of it before, but you might want to reconsider it took me 18 minutes and i think it has to be under 8 for story telling.
the story limit here is 5-8 minutes.
yeah, i remember you. i remember that round b/c i had a splitting headache and kept wishing i could just curl up and go to sleep. but once i got up to perform, i forgot about the headache b/c i was so into the performance. i tend to do that.
and not to brag, but i won that tourney in story. the only one i've ever won. you're the only person who's mention my lack of rhyming. i was hoping that would help me this year, but i don't really know if it has.
veronica
02-09-2004, 07:24 PM
18 minutes!! yikes! how in the world...I mean no offense.. but how could "Hair in My dirt" ever be that long?....
I was wondering who won that one... Awesome... I thought it was the best in finals. I thought ur lil guy was kewl.

I tried picking up Storytelling, but it's so hard to find a good piece! Seriously, the only pieces I seem to find are the standard fractured fairy tale ones, and those have been done to death. Hey, Veronica, give yourself a little bit of credit! I think you're Storytelling piece is great.
veronica

ok i guess u're right... Ms. watkins told me of a piece today..about a prince and a mouse. It sounds like fun. I was wanting to look into it. WEll Jon you could go to E-ville one day and look at Barnes N Nobles. She told me thats the only place around here that has a good slection. Have you tried the public library?
She also advised me to look into something Hispanic ( i don't know how that would help you..heheh White boy) she said i could use it to my advantage.
your best bet is the library.
thats right you tell them esse!
thanks, veronica.....
storytelling is so much fun, it's definetaly worth the hunt for a decent piece. veronica's right. library or Barnes&Noble. you can find a story piece in just about anything kid related. just go browse the kid section in either place. i got "bartholomew and the oobleck" out of my sister's toybox. she'd shoved a few long-forgotten books in there, and i found a whole Dr. Seuss Treasury. and a friend of mine briefly did a Bill Cosby routine, "chocolate cake for breakfast," and it was great. i've seen someone else doing monty python and the holy grail. just look at everything as a potential story, and something will jump out at you.

thats right you tell them esse!
Thanks Chad... mi amigo 8)
really, ria, you saw some one do bill cosby...like little bill stuff?... or just him...
it was one of my teammates. he made me help him out w/it b/c he was a senior, but he'd never done story before. it was a normal bill cosby routine, not like one of the "little bill" stories. it was a great routine about kids having chocolate cake for breakfast, and the wife comes downstairs and finds them all eating chocolate cake and grapefruit juice and 6 a.m. it really is funny. i can't remember how he did with it. i know he didn't final, and he only did it once or twice, but he told me he had fun with it while it lasted.
veronica

Well at least he had fun with it... I think you should get a piece that you will succeed with...BUT at the same time...HAVE FUN!!!!!! i tell everyone that...

Ah yes, the eternal question, "What story will I do this year?" We storytellers have a unique problem in that most of the material we have to work with is slightly overdone. Now, not all is, but most. Just remember in your search, even things that are over done (like good ol' Dr. Himself, go me and ria!) can be great if you put a new spin on it. I do Horton Hears a Who, and I think it rocks out. Not that it's the best performance in the state or anything, but I love doing it so much and besides that, people love watching old favorites brought to life in a new and interesting way. I don't know how many judges, you probably have this too ria, that told me I brought something of myself to a piece that thousands of people know and love. To be truely good at a selection it has to mean something to you. You have to love it. Okay *climbs down from soap box* I'm done with my speech speech (haha). So....the story is the awsomeness! WHOOO!!!

Oh, and i think i saw you performing "A hair in my Dirt." Were you at the Assumption tourny and you were in my round with a guy who did "The true story of the three little pigs"? If so, you were really cute, cute voices.

Ria, you chose well. bartholomew and the oobleck was at NFL nats this summer as an unscripted duo, and it finalled, and it was AMAZING. I loved that piece sooo much. the great part is, alot of people have been trying to get it for this year, but haven't been able to. Next year, it'll be overdone, but it sounds like you beat the rush!
veronica
02-14-2004, 10:08 AM
 Yup that was...well is ME. I have totally changed it though. I think it is way better than last time. But i have been working on it for regionals...even though i am already PQ . Back to what i was saying...
It is way better... so i am happy! :D
really? my little bartholomew went to NFL? *sniff* i'm so proud of him... yes, i've had a lot of fun with this story. i don't know how i'm gonna beat it next year.

I went to the books store in town last night... there are so many boks.. man it's gonna be really hard for me to find a kick butt piece for next yr... will all u guys be competing next yr?????
**** yes! me and rachel are gonna be rockin, too! and since i'm going to camp this year, i'll be able to hunt for a good story there. woohoo! camp! i'm wondering if my coach will let me alternate categories next year. i mean, i'll always be in story, and duo and solo will probly be my other main events, but i'd like to try oratory sometime, just for fun, and if i had the right piece i could do prose, too. if we were desperate, like we were this year, i'd do d.i. again, even though i really don't like it much.....but the odds that i could do all those at one tourney are pretty much nonexistent. i'd love it, though. just imaging...6 events in one tournament....oh, that would rock!!
veronica
02-16-2004, 08:35 AM
It would but it would very exhausting!! good lord.. that would be 18 times competing just at one tourny. But i guess if it was a swing you could regualte them... where is this camp at...?
WKU has speech camp every year. i don't know yet when it's gonna be.
it might be kind of exhausting, but most of the events i name don't have much action. oratory, you just walk around. prose and d.i., you just stand still. duo and solo you only move a little. story would be the tiring one. my story this year wears me out; i always wind up panting by the time i'm through with it. but i could do it.
just imagine if by some freak stroke of luck i managed to final in all six....oh, that would be the coolest thing in the world! wow, i'm gonna go daydream for awhile....
veronica
02-17-2004, 07:04 PM
That would kick arnus...and especially if you won in all 6... but you would have too of have SO much coffee/sugar/caffine pills!
But some of my team members went to this camp last yr.... is it worth it..and if you find ne info on it will you please share... thanks a bunch
everybody that i know who's been to speech camp has said that it's the greaest thing in the world. i'm definetaly going this year. i just know that you can't go once you graduate, b/c it would be pointless, so this is my last chance as a camper. i'll go even if it conflicts with music camp.

wku's speech camp is june 20-25...
the website is going to be up soon...
http://www.wku.edu/forensics/wkusfi04.htm
until then...look for our ad in the april rostrum...
camp is 600 dollars for out-of-state students and 300 smackers for anyone from kentucky... any more questions...email me and hopefully i can answer them...
alderct@wku.edu
nooo! not the 20th!! it's supposed to be the next week!
for the last three years, speech camp has been the week after music camp. something always happened to where i couldn't go, usually money issues. so it just figures that the one year i can go, it means i have to miss my fourth year of music camp for it. ergh!

Hey guys! My name is Mason, and I am new to forensicsonline.net. I am a storyteller, and I love it! Some kids referred to me as "That Dr. Suess kid." Rachel ("Horton Hears a Who" girl!) inspired me to do storytelling. I went to KHSSL semi-finals with Dr.Seuss's THE SNEETCHES. YAY!
This year, I am doing a piece about dog poop. Yes. Dog poop. hee hee. I hope this one blows people away. :o
power to dr. seuss! i didn't know there was a third one! i did Bartholomew and the Oobleck last year. rachel's on my team, glad to know she's recruiting fellow storytellers. as the moderator of the Storytelling forum and a fellow dedicated storyteller, i officially welcome you to the boards! maybe you can help us get some more action in this forum, storytelling is so wonderful it's sad that nobody come here to talk about it.

Thats awesome, DOG POO! hahah I love it, inspiring. Yiipie only one week left till I get to compete! YES!
mason.....didn't i meet you at larue last saturday? you were rachel's friend from gsp, and you were in a duo room with us once...or was that a different mason?
madmasonmiller
12-27-2004, 04:51 PM
Hmmm. . . you might have met me. I don't really remember. We did compete against Rachel in Duo.
rachel's my duo partner.
i can't wait for competition to start again! aaaaahh! Flibber-O-Loo is just dying to be told again!

Yeah, that Mason was my Mason! The tall, dark, handsome one! lol Love you dear! I love your story by-the-by. Do I smell state finals? lol Ah well, I wish I could just see how state would turn out (no more stress!). But if wishes were fishes, I'd be up to my gills in dreams. Besides...why compete if you're gonna' know the outcome!
i definetaly don't want to know how state will turn out. i'd either be so happy i'd screw it up for myself or so depressed i'd....well, screw it up worse for myself. no, half the fun is the anticipation.

Hey Rachel. I dunno about State Finals, at the Rowan/Knott Swing, I got 3rd overall in Rowan and I got 6th overall at Knott. I got 6th because I stopped in the middle of my piece . I dunno why. I think I was just burnt out. My time was 3:42 or something like that. It was so embarrassing!
Will I see you at Speak of the Devil?
it confuses me how people can get burned out on their speeches. i don't think i've ever been burned out on anything i've done in speech. i had a terrible story once, so i changed it, but that doesn't count.
3:42? ouch. well, i'm sure you'll do better next time.

Sorry i have posted in ages and.... yes forgive me

I am crazy about Forensics.
Veronica, i dont think there is a person on this site that isnt crazy about it. Even though there will be some to admit they arent crazy about it, everyone knows deep down inside them they are. LOL! And even if they arent, you know they have to enjoy it a little bit.
you have to be crazy about forensics to post on this website.
yes, mason, veronica is obsessed with yertle the turtle. absolutely loves it. i think she wants to marry him, actually.
lol, love you veronica!
school has restarted! this means that speech has restarted! yay!

I think I have heard of Veronica's "Yertal Fetish." heehee. We are all obsessed. Some just more than others. But we love you anyways Maria...oh...did I say that outloud?
veronica
01-09-2005, 08:08 PM
 yes Mason Rachel is right. I do have a "Yertal Fetish" ... which sounds even weirder when I say it outloud. I must admit though that turlte gotz mad skill Yo! I love ur piece, hopefully i will get to see it before state.
Most of my teammates do actually think I am weird bc i obess over forensics so much. I makes me sad bc the newbies on my team don't have the passion in thier eyes that I used to and teamates from the past. (insert cheesy music) It just seems that each year that passion fades fromt eh eyes of my team mates (end cheesy background music)
Ok sorry about that... i'm jk with u guys but some of that is true about my team. I don't understand how anyone could not be crazy about forensics why that is almost as absurd as not liking vanilla pudding!
so, this would be a bad time to tell you that i don't like vanilla pudding?
no, rachel, you didn't say it out loud. you typed it out loud, heehee! yay for typing!
a lot of our teammates still have fun, but not all of them. it so confuses me how they find this not fun. even when i was a freshman/sophomore and not really good at all, i still loved it.
tournament on saturday! yippee!

Heck girl even up to last year when i sucked I still had a blast...I am having more fun this year than last. I love forensics, even tho i won't be competing for the best college forensics team ever (WKU) in college.. i think i am satisfied where i am going. I am loving my senior year though, it has been a blast that i never though i would have.
Well i am sidetracking here... i really need to be thinking of a design for our student Council shirts. I am excided for this weekend... I am sitting on the bleaches this weekend in ST, but i am competing in improv and as of today i am now doing Congress!! YIPPIIE!!!
yay! so you won't be bored out of your mind! well, assuming that you would have been bored out of your mind like i would if i was only doing one event. i still wish i was quadrupling...
2 days. only 2 days left! hahahahaha!!!

I was excited to see everyone and have loads of fun this past weekend... by far my favorite tournament. Even though i had a four!!! and didn't make it to ST finals... but i sat in and watched Duo finals...Maria and Rachel were lovely like always. I sat and talked to rachel between performances and i also ate lunch with the coolest team ever..... BETHLEHEM!
i think veronica secretly wants to move to bardstown and joing bethlehem's team...

02-08-2005, 11:21 AM
hehehe...i am. I actaully like this one. I think i can preform it pretty well. I just have to finish memorizing the last page. I think i am going to do really well with this. (By Well i mean make it to state next satruday at REgionals!)
good luck, veronica! we had our regions last saturday and it was awesome. even though i was prequalified in all three of my events already, i managed to re-qualify in all three again from regions. so, yay!
veronica
02-15-2005, 06:55 AM
What events are they..if u don't mind me asking
not at all. story, duo and solo. i did really really well, but i got a random four in story. i'm not complaining about it, but it was just sort of....out there. my scores were 1 1, 1 2, 1 4. random.

i'm doing "bartholomew and the oobleck" by dr. seuss.
Ooh, that was in NFL nationals finals as a duo 2 years ago. It was awesome.
it seems like i heard that. it was weird, b/c i know i'm the first person to do it in kentucky, and then i went to tenessee a compteted at g-burg and there were 2 or 3 other people doing it. one of them was in my semifinal round! but i was better than her. and then i heard it was at nfl, and i was just thinking "yay! i'm so proud of my little bartholomew!"
